Hello all! First book review of 2019 here! If you have been here for a while or know me at all, you know I LOVE Supernatural and ghosts! I’ve even written two short stories about them, that being said, I absolutely LOVED Lumens by Mary Jane Capps!
Lumens is about Libby, a teenage girl with a heavy heart. After the loss of her older, dazzling sister she suffers from grief and guilt. Libby moves from the big city to a small coastal town where her eccentric aunt Sharon and her uncle Frank live and run a light house. But shortly after arriving, Libby begins noticing some odd things, like how there’s a shadow in the light house and her necklace keeps moving from her nightstand to the window in the night.
This book address addiction, grief and guilt in a really tasteful way.
I really love the wit, sass and humor sprinkled throughout the story,
Over all
10/10 stars
Sexual content
Libby kisses two boys but nothing further happens
Profanity
Very little. A few minor profanities.
Negatives
Underage drinking. May trigger some dealing with guilt after a loved one’s death. Drugs are used and talked about but never viewed as a positive thing to do.
Over all I highly recommend this book! It was a fast read and really fun, intriguing and heartfelt.
